There is still a tonne of LEGO that serves the original purpose, but there has always been bespoke pieces for some sets that serve little other purpose. All LEGO has done is evolve once it realized it's target audience 30/40 years ago are now time poor adults with disposable income.

My Samsung washing machine delights in telling me (alongside it's stupid little song) that the 'AI selected wash is complete' even though I chose 'colours' because I was washing colours and it's invariably the first option on the list anyway and almost certainly the choice for the vast majority of daily washes..
Foxes are just dogs, but with cat software installed.
