I still fall into that trap from time to time, tbh, and I cringe at myself afterwards.
It wasn’t until college that I learned the difference between prescriptive and descriptive linguistics, and I realized there’s ZERO reason to correct someone if you can understand. School slaps your wrist when you do it “wrong”, and it’s easy to learn that’s how we should treat language. But nah.
When they say some sailors went overboard, do they mean drowning? Or just swimming to shore to escape?

Tech is at war atm. It’s tough for any individual to have much leverage. Our board is convinced everyone can be replaced by AI, and there are very few jobs if they take that gamble. They already laid off half of the company in one pass, and expect AI to make up the difference. And it isn’t. Even great engineers are strong-armed into working much longer hours. And the writing is on the wall, there’s no technical limitation to gen AI completely replacing software engineering. 2 years? Maybe 3?
