Why do those names on the edge sound so threatening? Voids and Walls....

Phlebas is the least 'Culturey' of the series. Maybe try one of the better rated ones like The Player of Games or Look to Windward.

I have absolutely no love for DS9 couldn't finish the second season. Always though TNG and Voyager are way better and more immersive.

Besides Player of Game you can try Look to Windward, Use of Weapons, The Hydrogen Sonata. Inversion is a nice addition but different.
