Oh believe me, I am still dealing with the guilt of leaving. I worked in public school for my best adult years and spent more time with other people’s kids than my own. The choice eventually became, should I be a burnt out teacher and an absent parent, or should I be a better teacher and be present and healthy for my family? I’m humble enough to know someone else is better in my place in an environment where I would have failed sooner or later.
Job applications are soul draining. I hope you find something soon and escape the search soon!
This is true and I’ll add to that quality of life overall. I took a lower paying job as a teacher at a private school that treats me like a professional. I gave up the better paying public school salary because I couldn’t put up with the BS anymore. When that same school district started offering six figure salaries at needy schools, I didn’t even think about it. They couldn’t pay me enough. Pay me AND respect me.
Yep, as a former climate denier, that’s what I heard and regurgitated the most. The earth goes through cycles and the ice ages of the past prove that it can’t all be man made. People can be intelligent and just choose not to think or care.

Republicans are the biggest threat to religious freedom to those of us for whom religion requires service to the poor, the immigrant, the marginalized.

It’s unpatriotic to insist that destitution is the baseline in this country, and it drives me crazy that that’s not obvious to everyone.

So who was the asshole who saw someone living in destitution and said “I’ll buy your labor to make money for myself” instead of feeding and clothing them?

As a recently returned Catholic, I wish more people like you would come back. It’s lonely here, feeling like I’m the only one actually trying to do what the Gospels and the Church ACTUALLY teach and not just claiming my personal politics are “Christian.” Been reading a lot of Dorothy Day.
