Long time lurker turned member. I once posted OC... never again.

I feel bad for anyone that is just learning that, because it means you didn't grow up in a school where every year for some reason some bug "expert" came in and showed off all their bugs.

And yes, I'm aware that scorpions aren't "bugs" but are arachnids. I DID grow up with the yearly bug man.

Fun fact: The Bible does have a few things to say about male-male sexual relations, but literally NOTHING about trans people. The only gender-diversity it mentions in the NT is to praise Eunuch's for being good and included in the Kingdom of God.

One sad part of the modern age of terrible politics is media literacy has dropped substantially, and folks miss obvious satire all the time. It's wild.

It's satire. And I mean no disrespect here, but based on the many comments like this, I am begging Imgur to practice basic media literacy. If something seems unbelievable (even in this time of many unbelievable-but-true things), simply assume satire first, especially when there is intentionally no source or claim of validity. And, if there IS a claim of validity but no proof, assume fake.

Damn it, the top comment and reply were just the exact two thoughts I had and now I have zero reason to comment.

As a reminder, because trans women are women, when you harm trans women you harm all women.

The arguments against trans women ALWAYS can and will be used to then harm cis women. It is proven again and again and again.

@iusedtodream, you're spot on, fwiw. All the data shows that for all developing minds (basically anyone under 20), and for most even developed minds, grace and owning up to a bad choice is the only way for people to actually learn and change. Other methods of response do exactly what you said: teach folks to hide.

Scrolled down to double check someone mentioned this. The whole goal of the Trump admin was to have SCOTUS claim that birthright citizenship is NOT constitutional. Even though Kavanaugh joined the majority "against" the admin, he wrote an independent ruling (making it a 5-3-1 ruling), that said it is NOT constitutional, but IS the current law unless congress changes it. That's still a ruling that declares the constitution unconstitutional. He still gave Trump what he wanted.

100 percent. Publications like the Times will often publish absurd opinion pieces because letting someone write out their absurd ideas leads to necessary clarity; an op-ed is not an endorsement of a view, and often the goal of publishing it is to make a mockery of it.

It seriously annoys me SO much

I mean, the world didn't stop exactly, but it was literally all over the news and social media. Notre Dame is iconic and important for a huge number of people outside of Paris.

In general the majority of people prefer to live within the confines of established systems. It's literally in our nature as social creatures whose brains are formed around social norms. But it's also in our nature to seek out good things that make us and others feel good and improve life. So when cost and access to art and entertainment is reasonable, people will pay for it. When it isn't, people will find other ways.

Whoa! I was like 30 minutes away from music class, which would've put me in one of those during the quake as well!

@OP, I'm a full-stack dev but been working primarily in JS for ages, and I happen to be in charge of the JS and CSS architecture in my org. I've started trying AI code as a way to write some basic stuff faster (because high-key I have too many responsibilities as it is). I am gobsmacked at HOW FREAKING BLOATED AI CODE IS. And with so many obviously functionality and security holes in a whole swath of things. In other words: I feel ya and stay strong not letting AI add to the tech debt.

Can someone explain what's wrong with "Goyim" per #51? Obviously teaching that all non-Jews are evil is absolutely terrible. But why would they also apologize for using the term 'goyim?' It has no moral significance, and is used by like every Jewish person from most conservative religious and zionistic, to completely non-religious hyper progressives. I mean, the word is said in Curb Your Enthusiasm.

Fwiw, Rowling views herself as Hermione, and her use of others mocking Hermione for standing up for the house elves is her attempt at analogizing basic slavery and the reduction of women to tend to the household, because Rowling views herself as a "true" feminist, willing to stand up against those who mock her.

Of course, her "feminism" is reductive, unnuanced, and hateful.

I always thought a Freudian Slip was that sexy little nightgown my mom used to wear to bed.

The tragic thing is that "Never Again" has already been proven false at least twice (Cambodia and Rwanda).

I mean, somewhat right but also, what "olden day Christians" are you referring to? I'm assuming you're referring to the gnostics? Because if so, worth noting that's a pretty small group of people, and not the majority of "olden" Christians. Christians of old took their view of Adonai from the Jewish post-exilic view, which was distinctly of a good God.

Interestingly, its obvious in the OT that this wasn't always the Hebrew view of Adonai, but one that developed over time.

The only risk is when women lead with the same modality and rules that patriarchy has already established, which is unfortunately likely in a democracy that elects people steeped in the patriarchy. Prime example: Margaret Thatcher.

We need women in leadership who lead in a totally different way.

I definitely was thinking of Gates while typing :( I'm a Washington native in tech and he has just made me so sad and disappointed.

100 percent yes... but also not really. She's referring to politicians who sexually assault/abuse others, whether by force of position of power. Her handy in the theater was at least consensual. (Well... unless you were a third party near her.)

But, let's not mix up consensual exhibitionism with sexual assault.

Totally understand what you intend by this, and I'm 100 percent for critiquing religious groups of any sort that refuse to acknowledge the humanity and dignity of others (and I'm particularly incensed by evangelicals for the very reasons you said). But for context, this film does a pretty good job showing that religion can have two modes - one of loving character-forming storytelling, and one that is hateful and vengeful. The quote in this is the former.

#5 the reason is capitalism. Other economic systems still create an oligarchy of wealth (just like capitalism), but when unlike other systems (where the end goal is legacy/honor/fame/etc.), the end goal of capitalism is just wealth. So billionaires, who by their very status prove they are bought into the system at the highest degree, don't have any desire to do anything but hoard, as that is *winning* in capitalism.

Israel doesn't need to be mocked; it is itself the joke. I mean, a country that was founded after a genocide of a people group whose very foundational religious text is pretty much just a warning not to treat other nations with the same type of violence and oppression they'd experienced in exile (and exile their religious texts blame on how they'd mistreated people), and that country is now proudly committing genocide? What a disgusting fuck of a fucking joke.
