Wire brushing removes the softer wood present (the dark stuff) which highlights the grain. It looks a bit older that way too. It’s my first.
I wonder if the Powdercoating and marine varnish will last longer than the original paint and old school oil finishes. Doubtful...
This one is just straight 1x3 oak (nominal) and it’s plenty rigid. I’m 265 and and it barely flexes.
The last one I did, I used 5/8” Sapele Mahogany and after I had test assembled it, I ended up making it 40” wide and remaking braces
Pretty sure it’s only poor people that don’t like HID lights.
