They're really good books if you have the patience to read through them. It IS a bit of an undertaking, though...

Do we understand the intended meaning? Yes. Does the alternative meaning stop being a valid interpretation as a result? No.
Yeah, unless they have tuned mass dampers hidden away there somewhere, I wouldn't think "big-mass-on-stick" an ideal anti-earthquake design.
The bolts would only ever really be under tension. There aren't any significant shear forces, so those bolts would be plenty sufficient.
Hydro is fantastic in areas where it is viable, but it requires fairly specific geography to even be a possibility.

It could be argued that more energy intensive processes are actually more harmful for the environment overall. (2/2)
True, but part of the problem is the energy cost to manufacture alternatives. Plastic is REALLY easy to make. (1/2)

The fact is, there is no proof one way or the other, so it boils down to a case of personal belief.
The idea that there is no God until proven to exist is an appeal to ignorance- the same fallacy as saying there IS a God until proven false.
