Going to be some real disappointment out there when the boomers die off and it turns out everyone is still a bunch of assholes. My generation, Gen X, is filled with a bunch of disappointments too. Granted, there are fewer of us, but it may just be that people, and Americans in particular, aren't great.

Yeah there are plenty of places where all you really can have is a small lawn, if you're lucky. I'm in rural middle TN and I'm watching middle aged men cut 2,3,4,5 acres a week every week on a riding lawnmower. It's just such a waste. They could keep an acre or more clear and be fine and instead they waste their lives on the back of a mower. It's probably relaxing for them and a chance to be outside, but it just feels disheartening both for the the land owner and for the wildlife.

Yep, it's a weird delusion people labor under. People around here own multiple acres of land and mow much of it meticulously even though there is no HOA or law making them do it. I rewilded my 10 acres and I mow a very small portion to keep the ticks back. We could have so much biodiversity if we just let a portion of our lawns progress to a natural state.
