My wolfhound jumped into my pool to "rescue" my niece when she went under water. She didn't actually need rescuing, but the thought was nice.
Being able to hear yourself along with the rest of the instruments is important.

My cat is an indoor cat, but a former stray. He'll hunt mice that get inside. One night he had one I think he found in the basement, and brought it up to my bedroom and released it. I don't think it was a gift, I think he just figured it was easier to chase around up there.
We also survived because despite a lot of creatures happen to like snacks and scritches, and will sometimes forego the slashing and mauling for them.
