I definitely did have this thought about reading many times before. Another funny thing is that I just always assumed that counting sheep to fall asleep was a metaphor. I figured it just meant counting slowly, and I didn't really understand why the sheep were ever mentioned. It also never worked for me.
No, I tried getting into reading many times. But I really struggle with motivation for it. While I obviously can't be sure, I imagine that aphantasia might be a big part of the reason.
The idea of picturing something to remember where you put shit is baffling to me. I can remember what things look like but just not visualize them. I think in relations, logic, processes, cause /effect, etc. I'm a pretty decent programmer and think if anything not being able to think in images has helped me more in my career that hindered me. I only realised that other people supposedly think in pictures in my 30s
