Congrats man, It’ll go by quick. I retired 1 Apr 25 after 22 years in EOD, body is wrecked but getting a paycheck every month and basically free healthcare for the rest of my life is pretty sweet. Sorry you have to be “associated” with the Cheeto in chief but at least he won’t sign your retirement cert. (been trying to get a new one signed by Obama.)

Having spent 22 years in the military, ideology is not why most join. Family tradition, guaranteed job/pay/housing, education benefits, healthcare (especially for a new family) and the need to get the hell out of where they are (my reason). As another noted, hard times is the top recruiting tool.Please don’t lump the military and veterans as automatic magats. All are individuals with their own reasons for joining.
