Why are they in a chat when they should be working? I think that warrants a demerit!

Yessss, as a cilantro enjoyer, thank you! I'm forever telling people, yeah, okay, I see how it tastes like soap. But I like that, I guess? It doesn't need a genetic explanation, I just like it.

Yes, to purchase from a dealer. Private individual sales do not require a background check, and they are legal in Idaho.

So what lies between a criminally insane person and a gun purchase is their ability to seem sane, and the time and distance to the next gun show. You might find a private seller at the knife show next weekend, but if not, try Emmett in early September.

It's so disheartening. Being the beneficiary of a govt program that arguably saved my business would make me think more finally of the govt, I hope. Like, it might make me think they are trying to do good things, and maybe it's all a little more complicated than I had thought.

This feels like peak ladder-puller energy, IMHO.

I'm not shocked, but I'm still always horrified by it.

This says a lot, honestly, about how people ignore good things and only focus on what they see as bad. The survey asks a cohort of people who got money from the govt to save their businesses (PPP recipients), but they still vote against the kind of govt that offers help, because they hate regulation, especially around employment. And they don't blame regulation on the unscrupulous business owners who have done harm, but see it as a way the govt hurts them specifically.

I love Carsie Blanton (I am a huge fan girl) and I love this song (it pops into my head all the time) and this one line annoys me every time. Thank you for this, it makes me feel so much less crazy!

The Fastest Gun Alive, from 1956.

Also I didn't imagine I would be searching the internet for Russ Tamblyn shovel dance today, but that's just my kinda trivia, so .... thanks for asking!

I did not! Is this in Kopavogur near Sky Lagoon, or in Reykjavik proper? I'm trying to plan for a trip here with a friend in the next couple years and scoop up some stuff I missed.

Also, Sky Lagoon was my favorite place in the Reykjavik area, too. (Other than the local pools, which are a totally different kind of experience.)

I think you have great taste, is what I'm saying!

The different temperature pools sorta cascade down the shore of the fjord, ending with the coolest pool which is needless in the sea itself, so its temperature changes with the rising and falling of the tides. And the surrounding emptiness of the landscape is lovely. And the "cold plunge" is just walking straight out into the water of the fjord, so... The North Sea.

I have never been a more magical place that made me feel more an inhabitant of my own body.

Hvammsvik! Unbelievable, my absolute favorite place I got in the water in Iceland.

(Granted, I stayed near Reykjavik, and Laugarvatn was closed when I was there.)

That both the parade marshals and the parents of trans kids are blasting the hospitals for participating in the pride event (after they capitulated to the anti-trans rules being rolled out by the current administration)

Yeah, this is absolutely Sun-Ripened Raspberry erasure. And the Sweet Pea dropped in 2000 and nothing was ever the same for me.

Sometimes I get afraid I'm the only person who heard it called this, and it's so validating to see I'm not alone. Horrified, but not alone.

Oops, sorry for the mini infodump, then.

The Edinburgh International Festival is a fancy annual arts festival started just after WWII, and the Edinburgh Festival Fringe (often just Fringe) is an offshoot of that. It's open access, so anyone who wants to (and can afford it) can perform, and it usually features thousands of comedy performances over the course of about 3 weeks.

All this tells me is that the UK seems to be enforcing its laws about what content is illegal to post on social media. I'd be very interested to see a breakdown of how many of these posts were in each category: indecent, obscene, and menacing. And also how many of these arrests resulted in convictions. I don't implicitly trust the state, but a high number of arrests isn't compelling evidence on its own. A lot of variables can contribute to that number, not JUST authoritarian overreach.

Often they go hand in hand. I've never been famous on the Internet, but I have been a visibly fat woman with opinions, so I've received death and rape threats on social media. I (in the US) was told the police couldn't do anything. I'm not angry about countries trying to find a way to act on those things.

Fuck the carceral state, but also, people being arrested for posting their opinions is different from people being arrested for posting threats or encouraging harm on marginalized folks

#48 Is this commentary on when Graham Linehan was arrested for advising his followers on Twitter to assault trans women in public restrooms? Or is this responding to something else?

According to Britannica: "As a Jewish family, the Rothschilds have been targeted by conspiracy theorists as a prime example of Jews allegedly using their money to control global financial institutions. These claims have been roundly condemned and proven false, but they continue to persist."

So, antisemitism and eugenics, maybe?

At noradsanta.org

This is something else.

The NORAD site (noradsanta.org) does predate this nonsense, and it's wonderful and historical. This is not that.
