I signed for a delivery I was expecting, and police IMMEDIATELY rolled onto my street, sirens blaring, and parked in my driveway

They got out and asked why I placed an order for 4400 bullets. I told them it was at an awesome price (seriously, they all ended up costing $630, shipping included) and I wanted enough to shoot until next year when they went on sale again. It wasn't a good enough answer for whatever reason, so I closed my door and brought out my rifle to show them.

I've got two Mosin Nagants. One is a PU sniper, and the other one is the Finnish M91 model that I'm afraid of ruining by mounti

Showed them the rifle, ammo pouches, stripper clips, and opened one of the boxed to show them that it was just a bunch of the same ammo. They looked at each other and thanked me for the calm reaction. Apparently, there's some kind of rule companies that sell ammo across state borders have to follow. If you order more than 1000 rounds, they have to notify the state. Well, this is the first time in years that anyone has actually followed the rule when shipping to my state, so it raised an immediate red flag with someone inexperienced in the department because they've literally never gotten a phone call about someone ordering thousands of rounds of ammunition.

I got a follow up phone call from their chief, who also apologized about the whole thing and thanked me for not making this a headline story, because he knew that they would've been crucified for being that far into the wrong. He invited me to some event at the end of the year.

All in all, something neat happened in my otherwise incredibly boring life.

Edit: Obligatory front page edit. Bout to drop some truth on your asses. OK, here goes:

-How I Met Your Mother is a mediocre show at best. (In case you forgot)
-Equality means equal opportunity, not equal results.
-Racism should be classified as a mental disease at this point.
-New Girl is what I wish my life were, but with my current job.
-Mary Elizabeth Winstead is still severely underappreciated, and The Fappening hasn't changed my opinion on her.
-The punishment for white collar crimes should be infinitely more severe.
-Paying into social security should be optional, especially since generation y will most likely never see those checks.
-Ford Mustang performs better, but Camaros have always looked nicer.
-I haven't worn matching socks all week.
-FACT: Every man has watched porn and measured their dick.
-Every man knows what jelqing is.
-Internet porn has ruined this generation, and claims that regular porn viewing and masturbation are harmless won't be backpedaled until it ruins an entire generation of men. The overall lack of motivation these days is the hairy palm of truth.
-The younger daughter on Modern Family is the more attractive one (Alex), and they can make her wear as many sweaters as they want, but we can still see her massive boobies.
-STEM programs should be free. The costs involved for students are holding us back as a species.

Also, I'm not sharing the website name that led me to the deal because of the Imgur hug of death.

Reasonable cops being reasonable gun owners being reasonable. It's an amazing thing.

Just went and looking up jelqing.. Oooookay T_T

12 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I did not know what Jelqing was....

12 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

"thanked me for not making this a headline story" -- imgur front page is fine, I suppose.

12 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 1

I guess the difference is that nobody from imgur is gonna call the chief.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Let's hope the chief isn't imgurian

Chick who plays Alex is 16, calm yourself.

After "I closed the door to get my guns" I was waiting for "then they kicked down the door and shot me"

12 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

I do not know what jelqing is, and do not want to look it up on a work computer.

12 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

And I am a man. Or at least I thought I was until I learned that every man knows what jelqing is...

12 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

well, the cops did their job, you weren't a dick about it, isn't that how it's supposed to be?

12 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

But you never hear stories about it. It's always teetering on one end of the spectrum or another.

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

So uh, you're going to share where you got the ammo deal right?

12 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

What is the imgur hug of death?

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

when something cool is advertised, we all flock to it. The most common instance is a website getting shut down from too much traffic

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

but the idea is the same. A virtual stampede

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

"I closed the door and went for my rifle". Oh oh, this won't end well...

12 years ago | Likes 641 Dislikes 16

I was thinking "NO! DON'T DO IT, KID!"

12 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 1

12 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

that was my thoughts also

12 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 2

"You just stay right here while I get my weapons."

12 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 1

I kinda wondered bout the closing of the door, it sounded ominous, repoter or not. Why close the door?

12 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

It's getting cold yo.

12 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

I assumed it's because leaving it open could be construed as inviting them in, which is tantamount to consenting to a search.

12 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 1

Good to know! Police practices are very unfamiliar to me even in my own country.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This. It almost certainly would've gone down like this.

12 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

It read, "...so I closed my door and brought out my rifle to show them." You must be a "news" reporter.

12 years ago | Likes 254 Dislikes 27

The line broke after "rifle" on my cell. Read it the say way at first.

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

So you've actually seen people raping and murdering each other? No Tom were just reporting it.

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Policemen can get nervous when people produce firearms.

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Except when it's in its case, and you unzip it in front of them after telling them “It's for this. ”

12 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

We are reporting..

You ordered thousands of rounds, closed your door on cops then grabbed A RIFLE from your home & lived to tell the tale. You must be white.

This is how I know you don't know what basic gun etiquette is.

12 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 8

... The cops came with sirens on to check on a possibly very-criminal purchase of ammo, and you came to the door with a rifle. Not normal.

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

This is how I know you're not a black man.

12 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

I don't, but from the way you worded it that's what I expected as well.

12 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 3

Oh, so you brought out the gun because the police asked you to produce it. I get it now.

12 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

"They seemed impressed with the rifle, although it's kinda hard to hear them from up in the clock tower".

12 years ago | Likes 74 Dislikes 2

That was a dark lol!

12 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

my thoughts exactly!

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Warn them when you buy that many next year!

12 years ago | Likes 80 Dislikes 4

"Hello, police? Just letting you know I'm not breaking any laws, nor do I intend to in the future. Just a heads up."

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They would probably take that as a threat. Cuz nobody calls them to say they are going to buy tons of ammo. lel

12 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

I definitely will.

Invite them for dinner.

Why? to conform to our police state of a country? This is a free country and he can order what he wants without persecution unless illegal.

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Why? It's not illegal

12 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 3

saves any unnecessary problems, more a common courtesy, especially when its come up before and ended amicably.

12 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Saves them a trip. If the law is they are notified (and kudos to ammo people for following the law) then they can be like 'k, we know thanks

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Because some cops probably won't be as understanding as these two

12 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

No, that's nonsense. The police chief called to let him know they were in the wrong. These guys had no standing to do what they did.

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

FYI,the gun is somewhat of a piece of shit, but it's cheap to shoot and fairly accurate, and was a big WW2 service rifle for some countries.

12 years ago | Likes 99 Dislikes 7

Eastern bloc stuff mostly, though the "Eastern bloc" only really started to form in like 1949 and onwards.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Calling a Mosin a piece of shit? Oh man, you would upset a loooot of Mosin fanboys for saying that. :D

12 years ago | Likes 39 Dislikes 0

Look, you don't buy a Mosin for bells and whistles, you buy a Mosin because it shoots accurately, and will continue to do so indefinitely.

12 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

I completely agree. Its a reliable piece of work for a relatively low cost. Sorry if it seemed like I was disparaging its good name. :)

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Yaaar.

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yarr!

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I love my Mosin, but real talk, it's not a Ferrari.

12 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

More like a 40 year old Geo that is still somehow running.

12 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

The Mosin may not be accurate, but that metaphor sure was. =P

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Real talk, so true. But then, you can also use it as a club, which is nice.

12 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

OP, Fellow Mosin owner here. Where did you find that kind of sale on your ammo. Please share.

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Piece of shit? There are Mosins used in both world wars that will outlive us all.

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yes, but it's essentially a fencepost with a barrel. Ergonomics of peace.

12 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Fair enough, but does anyone buy a Mosin for it's ergonomics or it's high end composition?

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

More importantly what calibre?

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

EL CALIBRE.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Like the Soviets, comrade.

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Dude shut up my 91/30 can shoot a whole 10MOA grouping that's magic accuracy

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's not a piece of shit. It's just a war rifle from 60 years ago. It's great at what it is.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's a fencepost with a barrel.

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I have an old SKS that is also known as a PoS. Many times I have shown friends it shoots better when it's dirty.

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Also, hitting it with a hammer is an appropriate method of unjamming

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I don't clean my mosin. Shoots better than my CZ rifle. I love the thing, but my shoulder hates it once I'm 100 rounds in.

12 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Its cause the extra carbon seals the gas system.

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Good point, I never thought of that.

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Happens on the WASRs too.

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

There are plenty of high powered rifles and guns out there, but I would recommend a (Finnish) M91 to anyone. No wonder, it kicked ass n WW2

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I have one, they're fucking awesome.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My brother has one, it'll give you a nice bruise on your shoulder after not too long.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

+1 for Mosins, cheap ammo, and the only FP edit I've ever appreciated. Although, as a man, I have no idea what jelqing is. I will find out.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Owns a Mosin, orders thousands of rounds ... let me guess, you browse /k/ regularly, don't ya?

12 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 0

Can you please tell me the state you reside in and the state you ordered from? I'd really like to know. Thank you :)

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm not a Nagant fan boy, but the rifle is far from a piece of shit. Very brilliant design and very reliable. Oh and it's a fucking cannon

12 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

The pictured one is not the M29, right? Because "Pystykorva" has a quite recognizable forward sight, if I remember right...

12 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

It is the PU, basically a 91/30 Mosin-Nagant with a scope.

12 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

The Mosin is proof of how little the USSR cared for its soldiers. It is essentially a fence post that also fires bullets

12 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

From my understanding, the Finnish M39 was fine. Or I've heard too many war stories growing up.

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Looking to start a Mosin project for the wife and I this year. We have been finding them for about $115 - $130 on average.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Id buy it soon. They keep going up, and theres not way I would spend more than that on a Mosin

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Good call, we were pl0anning on January, my local shop has a lot of crates of them, in good condition, so I will scoop them soon.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Hopefully they come with the accessories for that much.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I didn't see any pouches, what should I be looking to get for that price?

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

"so I closed my door and brought out my rifle to show them" - Was expecting a different ending after reading that.

12 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

12 years ago | Likes 576 Dislikes 2

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 8

Something that hardly anyone knows about that OP thinks is a very common thing.

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Kegels came up with the search. Seriously just start talking to your partners. Damn.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I think you have to be sexually attracted to men to be gay.

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

well, some can argue that getting fucked by a dick is kinda gay. That's what i'm not sure of...

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Well the mosin isn't black and scary looking, I'm sure they realized he couldn't possibly be a threat.

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

999 bullets can't do much damage, but 1000 would fucking ruin everything.

12 years ago | Likes 241 Dislikes 6

You have to put a number somewhere. Someone 17 years and 364 days old isn't any less responsible than someone 18 years old.

12 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Well, there has to be a threshold somewhere. I get tired of filling out the paperwork when I move more than $10K, too.

12 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 2

Banks around here make you fill out the paperwork and count it in front of them. I keep that to a minimum, mainly because I don't have it.

12 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

Physically moving it in paper bills, or even transfers?

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Not if you're doing an electronic transfer (unless to/from overseas). But if you have cash, check, or other instrument....

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Just bags of cash with dollar signs.

12 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Yeah, politicians put arbitrary numbers on laws not based on facts or science but based on what sounds scary to them.

12 years ago | Likes 38 Dislikes 3

2spooky4them

12 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

To be fair, I doubt there was any facts or science available for setting that limit.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And to the public so the ignorant get scared and support them.

12 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Well, set the limit to 999. Oh, well 998 can do just about the same damage! You've got to draw the line somewhere.

12 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

In Finland one person can legally own 20000 bullets but fuck me if anyone has 20001 bullets they immediately become a mass murderer.

12 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Really? What if you're on auto order? Is it like, SHIT, I NEED TO GO TO THE RANGE NOW!!

12 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

Well they're looked into I imagine, same as you were. And you are mostly confined to shooting ranges in Finland anyway, unless you hunt.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I know, right? Just like it's OK to have a 10-round mag but not a 15-rounder? Hell no! So shooting 10 is OK, but 11-15? That's crazy! LOL

12 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

Damn it feel nice to live in a free state! 30 round mags all the way!

12 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 2

I can't get a PMR 30 because of this. I'm so annoyed by it.

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

I'm pretty close (MI) but it could be better. At least SBRs and SBSs just became legal here.

12 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

I have a 10 inch SCAR16 w/ suppressor, it's the coolest shit ever. I highly recommend.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If you're going to have a limit it needs to be set somewhere.

12 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 3

The only limit should be how many rounds one can afford.

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The limit does nothing. It just sounds good in the news to people who don't know any better.

12 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Considering the number of times a shooter has been stopped when he was reloading I'd say it makes a difference.

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

How many times has one of those shooters been found with an amount of ammunition considerably within "normal" limits?

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm not saying the limit is a good one. Just saying that the "so 31 bullets is bad but 30 is okay lol retarded" -argument is a bit silly.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

But that's exactly the message sent when arbitrary limits are set. 10 round mag instead of a 15 rounder? Just bring 2. See what I mean?

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That would've been a headline. "Cops follow the law, citizen reacts responsible. Nobody is pissed."

12 years ago | Likes 613 Dislikes 11

The cops are wrong. They should of done a background check before raiding him. The chief's apology admits guilt of wrong doing.

12 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 7

They didnt raid him they knocked on his door and asked questions.

12 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

No wonder his ass's getting bigger, he's the only overfed person in North Korea.

12 years ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 0

Ha!

12 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Yes. I don't see what the big deal is. What if it were a crazy person trying to commit a massive public shooting? If you sport shoot, say it

12 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

Yeah If that was the case I'm sure he would have confessed...

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Well not quite, there was no need for the sirens and rushing up on the house. They could have just driven up and knocked on the door.

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Well, I suppose you're right. That might've been overkill.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Cops do their jobs, its not cops fault idiots think they are out of line. They are the contingency plan when dumbarse pull shit

12 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 6

I'm actually happy the cops came to follow up on this. Over 1000lbs of ammo delivered? Let's go check that this guy isn't crazy.

12 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I'm happy you said this. People just don't understand that police are a reactionary force, and never know what they are getting into.

12 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 2

I could see the NRA starting a shit storm over it though...glad it turned out nicely.

12 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 4

As they should. Everyone I know buys in bulk when prices are low. Ammunition is a highly volatile market, price-wise.

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

I want more of these. I've stopped watching the news because it's all "Horrible accident in Endoftheworld" or "Politician X does thing"

12 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Or "Celebrity X does this." I once saw an article about how Jbiebs unfollowed someone on Instagram. Like someone acTUALLY WROTE ABOUT THAT

Right? definitely not Nightcrawler worthy.

I was born in the same city than your M91. That'd be Jyväskylä, Finland. I lived my whole childhood just 200m from the factory.

I could not agree more. Currently listening to some Korpiklaani.

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Well, to be fair, my Finnish aunt was pretty unimpressed by Korpiklaani. Said something like 'they are too much'.

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Would that be by road, or as the bullet flies?

12 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

Ironsight range I'd say. You could see the factory from cliffs just up my house. Perfect snipers nest. Bwahaha.

Is it correct that the Finnish Mosins have octagonal barrels?

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Can we get a phonetic pronunciation on this city?

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

That'd be /ˈjyvæsˌkylæ/ in IPA. If that helps.

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

If I recall Finnish phonetics correctly: Hoovaskoola. Not sure where the emphasis goes though.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'd say it's closer to Jouvaskoulah

Seriously someone correct me if I'm wrong, I don't speak that demon tongue.

Well, they knew you had lots of bullets. Pays to be polite.

12 years ago | Likes 80 Dislikes 0

It's a soft "J". Yogging.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

No clue.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

nope

12 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Had to google it. Hope our IT department doesn't know what it is either.

12 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Jelqing is the process of makin' yo peepee a PEEPEE

12 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Except all it does is bruise your penis and doesn't work... or so I've heard.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You're gonna have to clue me in here, yelling won't help!

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Anyone else read PEEPEE in a lower voice?

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I had to google it.

No idea either.

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I have no idea either.

Not a dude, but still figured I knew all the sexin' terms out there. TIL what jelqing is. Now I wonder if my exhubby does this. hmm..

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's an Arabic word. It means to hate your penis so fiercely, that it's only response is to somehow grow larger.

makes ya wonder about the rest of his " facts", huh?

12 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 2

Well, you are the "TurboVirgin."

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

for crying out loud, pick up the shells and reload 'em yourself!

12 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 4

Meh.The projectile alone costs as much as a complete round of surplus. Reloading would cost about double.

12 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Steel casings, bub. I reload 45-70. Once it's over a dollar per round, I'll start looking through the manual.

12 years ago | Likes 38 Dislikes 2

fair enough, i my uncle was a gamesman, when we cleared out his garage there were 7 5gal buckets of empty shells =p

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

You'd be blown away if you knew how many rounds you can go through at a single evening at the range.

12 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

+1 for cops being reasonable.

12 years ago | Likes 3417 Dislikes 25

Sad you don't see that comment more often.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Actually when OP said "I brought out my rifle" I legit thought the story was taking a terrible turn. Glad I was wrong!

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

+1 for people being reasonable with cops. 10/10 situations would be diffused if we the people acted calmer.

12 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

ALL IF THIS EVER. "He acted like a dick!" Because most of the time you got aggressive

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

You know, like normal.

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

-1 for cops being stalkers that hacked your privacy in the first place.

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The stripper clips did the trick.

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Reasonable would have been a phone call or discreet visit. No need to show up sirens blazing and demand an explanation for legal activity.

12 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

For everyone involved being reasonable.

12 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

shouldn't have been there in the first place

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

lol that was reasonable?

12 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

+1 also for OP being reasonable

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

ditto

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Yea I almost don't believe story because of it.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

+100 for everyone being reasonable all around.

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Good enough answer should have been "I wanted to buy them" and shut the door. Cops wanted more and I believe that was unreasonable.

12 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 6

Yeah, they don't like it when people are better armed than them. They like to hold the advantage when they decide to get a paid vacation.

12 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 6

You are just escalating the situation at that point though, I don't think it was terribly inconvenient for the guy to explain himself

12 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 3

I don't see the reason why you need to explain yourself. They can do a background check. The guy could lie anyway. Doesn't make much sense.

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 3

Sure, if he wanted to explain further that's fine. I wouldn't consider a polite retention of your legal rights to be escalating though.

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Yeah I understand you don't want to give up your rights, but at that point its just human to human interaction, nothing political about it

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I wouldn't consider a police w/sirens blaring and an officer demanding explanation for legal activity a person to person interaction

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Cops are people to and have their own judgement calls, I think in this situation theres nothing systematic about it

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Seriously, I was expecting them to have attacked and kidnapped OP, ransacked his house and stolen the gun and ammo. What a relief.

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

At first i thought it is gonna be another story about douches from police. I'm glad i was wrong.

12 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 1

No, you were right the first time.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 5

Being reasonable would have been the cops never came to his house because this is a free country and they are acting like big brother here.

12 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 3

I mean at the very most, a phone call would have sufficed.

12 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

I would love to hear you even remotely try to explain your logic. You are searching for a correlation that does not exist

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I've found most situations are self fulfilling prophecies. If you remain calm like OP, they will remain calm. If you freak the fuck out 1/2

12 years ago | Likes 56 Dislikes 6

"FUCK THA PO-LICE".............. "the police were mean to me for no reason :("

12 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 3

And swear, yell or act like a twat, they're probs gonna react in a similarly heightened fashion.

12 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

If you think storming your house with lights and sirens as reasonable....

12 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Cops are reasonable when suspects are reasonable. Simple.

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 3

Nope. That's not how it works. Not in the US anyway.

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 4

Oh yeah?

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Judging by the dozens upon dozens of stories of cops attacking people for no reason whatsoever, oh fucking yeah.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

"no reason whatsoever"

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

And not brown or black. That helps.

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Technically yeah, heuristic reasoning, conscious or subconscious, saves police lives.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

As a brown person: I've always been reasonable and cops have always been reasonable to me.

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

No. Reasonable would have been ignoring the phone call and spending their time on actual crime.

12 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 10

Reasonable would be ignoring a law and a potential risk? You have a strange definition of the word.

12 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 3

And exactly what the shit were they planning to do? They went up and asked the guy why he bought so much. Were they expecting him to say 1

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 3

"Ignoring a law"? Which law was that?

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Aside from what raidleadergutts said, if op had said "I bought it for reasons" and went in his house, they'd have no standing ti do anything

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

that he was planning to shoot up a precinct or a school or something? Just take a fucking note of it and don't bother people like this.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 3

"It's better if they ignore it. I'm completely biased against law enforcement, so this makes sense to me"

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Yeah, as if asking him is going to change anything. "People will definitely tell if they have bad intentions if cops ask them"

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

1) police selectively enforce all the time, 2) the law was "notify the police" which was done.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

and the police went to get a feel for the guy and his intent. Why is this a problem?

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Because it doesn't solve anything or stop anything? How 'bout buying 400 rounds 10 times. Now what?

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Seems like they had an idea that it was nothing, but because they've never gotten the phone call before, they didn't know what to expect.

12 years ago | Likes 450 Dislikes 2

+1 for a person reacted reasonable as well, instead of flipping shit for the cops doing their job.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

+1 for cops being responsible, and you acting calmly and not being a dick to them. Dang, It's nice to hear such a sensible story for one.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Then they're idiots. "Officer, some guy bought over 4000 bullets!". Reply: "So?"

12 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 8

Lol at people downvoting you. How dare you want cops to act reasonable instead of going in gung-ho? +1 for all it's worth.

12 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

Good thing you were a white person at the time.

I have to admit, if I was that inexperienced dude & out of the blue alerted someone ordered 1000s rounds of ammo... I'd sound the alert too.
