They certainly are, I can’t imagine now why I needed to drink
But post-acute withdrawal lasts longer than mere weeks. In fact, about a month for each year of hard drinking. Mine lasted nearly 2 years.

2/2 if you cannot buy/drink more in an effort to REDUCE, seek medical advice. medications can replace reduction methods and avoid seizures
RaeNashon
I second that. I used to work detox, some of them were dangerously ill and wouldn’t have made it without immediate care 1/2

This has to be for someone fully dependent on alcohol am I right? I mean I drink something most days, but days without it and I feel better
Not fully dependent, thankfully. It’s more psychological than anything else, but I do experience withdrawal symptoms.
Damn. Good luck. ?
The key in all cases is reduce before you stop completely, drink less amounts less often before saying "this is officially the last one"
ButtPlunger69
Yeah like with any drug quiting cold turkey can be dangerous, it is best to wean off
actually most drug withdraws are just very unpleasant with alternative drugs to ease that suffering, benzos and alcohol can actually kill
If you find this impossible then seek medical assistance/advice immediately because you DO HAVE A PROBLEM
graft
Yes, it is extremely misleading to say that seizures would follow if a person who drinks a 3-5 times a week suddenly stopped drinking.
Yeah I would think you would have to be an all day drinker. Or I guess it’s genetics too.
Yeah, that's pretty much correct though it isnt fully known. About 3-5% of recovering alcoholics will experience delirium tremens/seizures.
It is still scary for those that are truly addicted - if untreated the mortality rate of delirium tremens is 15-40%
I went to a Party on 21st December 1969, I finally left 13th February 1996 at 3pm

IF ANYONE IS DEPENDENT ON ALCOHOL AND WANT TO QUIT SEEK PROFESSIONAL HELP TO TAPER OFF TO AVOID DELERIUM TREMENS, IT CAN BE LIFE THREATENING
This, but it's also hard to know if you're to that stage. Can you share any recommendations from medical professionals?
If you can't go half a day without getting shakes you need to detox and ween down with a benzodiazepine taper to prevent the delerum tremens
Best advice on here

my2micmacs
That's bcuz ur sweating all the impurities out of ur body.
PeskiPanda
The majority of the impurities in our bodies don’t actually come out through our sweat. Mostly you pee them out.
Dunno why you're getting downvoted. It's true: your lymph nodes are busy purging at the same time as your liver and kidneys once the 1/2
neurological depressive effects of alcohol wear off and shit starts working properly again. Suddenly the body goes into emergency cleaning.
ahernandez
How much did you drink to get to that point?
Enough
rudejohn
As someone who has quit a few times and gone through this - a LOT.
If you drink to get drunk or have a good time then you’re just a piss artist, if you drink because you have to you’re an Alcoholic
BlueEyedTrixxyHobbit

OriginalGlitterman

It very heavily change per person. Someone has nothing, and some people die if they quit without medical help.
Probably best to discuss with your doctor, I definitely did just to be safe
introtothevert
Yup, they often prescribe valium for those first couple weeks because if the whole seizure and death stuff.
wmzer0mw1
OK im dumb, how the heck does going sober cause all these effects? How much do you have to drink to get to this point?
Alcohol and benzodiazepines are the only two drugs that after heavy dependency can cause death with sudden withdrawal
Since alcohol depresses the nervous system, if your body is used to having it on board, when you suddenly take it away your nervous system

Welve
Lmao I drink like once a week max, pretty sure I’m not at constant risk of this shit lol
yolkedkrainian
This doesn't mention the sweating. Enjoy changing your pillow case and bedding every day from sweating in your sleep for the first 2 weeks
AJBatson
Going through it right now - last drink was a week ago. Changed them yesterday, changing them tomorrow.
Richels
Yeah, it was about 6 nights that I had to change the bedding sometimes twice in a night because it would be soaked.
SoraPonyBoyVersetti
IF ANYONE IS DEPENDENT ON ALCOHOL AND WANT TO QUIT SEEK PROFESSIONAL HELP TO TAPER OFF TO AVOID DELERIUM TREMENS, IT CAN BE LIFE THREATENING
yolkedkrainian
This, but it's also hard to know if you're to that stage. Can you share any recommendations from medical professionals?
SoraPonyBoyVersetti
If you can't go half a day without getting shakes you need to detox and ween down with a benzodiazepine taper to prevent the delerum tremens
chinaPieCreator
Best advice on here
cullen0013
Ugh, I’m gonna be so gross. Thanks for the heads up tho!
brobinson2001
Google "John Cheese Cracked Quitting Drinking". Dude is good at telling you how it's gonna be, humorously
qPRdxH4UXm36HS9rJgLA
I cracked took down all of his articles after he got outed as a sexual predator, but it looks like new management put them back up
brobinson2001
I hadn't heard about that
nacklemurnig
There’s also a smell. You can’t stop it. It’s just there.
chinaPieCreator
Yep, nearly 25 years later I can still remember that smell
my2micmacs
That's bcuz ur sweating all the impurities out of ur body.
PeskiPanda
The majority of the impurities in our bodies don’t actually come out through our sweat. Mostly you pee them out.
brobinson2001
Dunno why you're getting downvoted. It's true: your lymph nodes are busy purging at the same time as your liver and kidneys once the 1/2
brobinson2001
neurological depressive effects of alcohol wear off and shit starts working properly again. Suddenly the body goes into emergency cleaning.
ahernandez
How much did you drink to get to that point?
yolkedkrainian
Enough
rudejohn
As someone who has quit a few times and gone through this - a LOT.
chinaPieCreator
If you drink to get drunk or have a good time then you’re just a piss artist, if you drink because you have to you’re an Alcoholic
BlueEyedTrixxyHobbit
Honestly I thought I had Covid when I still felt like shit 3 days later. Went to get tested and it turned out I was severely dehydrated
BlueEyedTrixxyHobbit
With heatstroke and sun poisoning. Felt so shitty that I was good with booze and then some of the Posted effects kicked in.
JimSleepWracker
Good lord, they're not selling the quitting aspect very well. I'll have all these awful symptoms, but at least my liver fat will be down
somethingstupidandclever
Yeah how bout "no risk of DUI" or "you won't have a $100,000 medical bill for acute pancreatitis" or "you will fucking smell better"
aloysiuscentauri
For those who will be unable to stay stopped on their own accord, none of this information matters.
OriginalGlitterman
My thoughts exactly!
Biigs
Yeah @op presumably some of these symptoms can be mitigated by meds?
Mithi
It is important to make clear that a heavy alcoholic can indeed die from withdrawal. Because it is the only drug that does that.
rotzverpopelt
I have all those symptoms and I never really started drinking.
Itjumpsupitjumpsdownitrunsallaround
+10% to a nice solid 3 hrs of sleep means full 18 mins more of pleasant relaxation! With night terrors possibly.
Phlynch
That sounds like a great reason to never touch it in the first place.
Melber
You're not going to trick me into mormonism that easy, Mitt Romney.
cullen0013
Haha IKR?
NapParty
Fatty liver will kill you.
R3AV3R
I'd say living is a pretty good benefit... Lol
waudey912
Here's hoping.
robotoclock
most things will kill you
wimdehert
The main benefit is not dying and creating a burning emotional crater for your friends and loved ones.
YouCanCallMeCal
Liver "fat" here means decrease in bridging fibrosis. Diet will impact liver fat more
artifexr
Fatty liver actually leads to dangerous problems, and if it worsens, hepatitis: https://www.webmd.com/hepatitis/fatty-liver-disease

Junkies always make me laugh, Alcohol withdrawal is far worse than a Heroins, an alcoholic can die if stopping without medical supervision
nonamejanie
Exactly what I was thinking. Lololol
CWrightPills
Cannibals who like foie gras: have a beer.
CptRobotNinja
These are pretty fucking severe withdrawal symptoms. I was a very heavy drinker for many years and I had none of these when I quit
breezybriv
That’s what I was thinking, I’ve gone weeks without drinking and never had any of these...
chinaPieCreator
Apart from the DTs and Wet Brain I had them all, thankfully last time I got put on Valium, but I was alcoholic, not just a heavy drinker
SirButcher
It very heavily change per person. Someone has nothing, and some people die if they quit without medical help.
CptRobotNinja
Probably best to discuss with your doctor, I definitely did just to be safe
introtothevert
Yup, they often prescribe valium for those first couple weeks because if the whole seizure and death stuff.
wmzer0mw1
OK im dumb, how the heck does going sober cause all these effects? How much do you have to drink to get to this point?
Biigs
Alcohol and benzodiazepines are the only two drugs that after heavy dependency can cause death with sudden withdrawal
introtothevert
Since alcohol depresses the nervous system, if your body is used to having it on board, when you suddenly take it away your nervous system
Biigs
https://www.healthline.com/health/alcoholism/can-you-die-from-alcohol-withdrawal overexcited CNS due to constant chemical depression
SabakuPrincess
Wernickes encephalopathy. Just google it.
milkshakaman
I guess your ability to concentrate on the benefits is down my 19%
Junktrunkjunkie
I thought most people drank precisely because they want to stop concentrating or thinking about things in general
cullen0013
I’m looking forward to increased concentration and most of all, better sleep
shadowbane1120
10% better sleep?
armandraynal
Compared to the nightmares of the acute withdrawal symptoms it will feel a lot more than 10%!
mktrat
22 days and counting. Some GI issues for a couple days, and a touch of anxiety, but otherwise I feel much MUCH better!!
BlueEyedTrixxyHobbit

beeny

martinomander5
Congratulations - keep up the good work!
GoddessPurpleFrost
Trying to quit myself. It's SUPER HARD when everyone has a beer but you.
VandelayIndustriesLatexSalesman
Maybe you need the change the people around you...
ondinammd3

mktrat

youknowthatonepersonwiththeface
If it's good enough for Matt Pike!
ondinammd3
Who is Matt Pike?
youknowthatonepersonwiththeface
Stoner/sludge musician. He's had drinking and drug problems, now he drinks Heineken Zero at shows. https://youtu.be/89h-X-tZa_w
