Breaking up with gf was hurting me a lot already. The fact that it coincided with a "misunderstanding" at work which led to me being accused of losing about 5000€, made me want to wander deep in the woods to clear my head and think about life & my bad luck. (If I wasn't in such a mood, I wouldn't have been in that isolated area at all)

Suddenly I saw this little fella totally stuck face down in this hole. It wasn't moving at all, so I feared for the worst...

After I pulled it out (the process took about 20' cause I didn't want to hurt it, plus that it's shell was very slippery -wonder why :-) ), the tortoise was scared but ok.

Tried to clean it's face and feed it something but it wasn't in any mood for food

So I let Koopa Troopa's cousin go...

... and covered the "trap"

Is it too much to claim that my bad luck turned to huge luck for this tortoise?

It's crazy how this little incident affected my mood for the better! Thought I'd share it. Thanks for reading imgurers

It's unlucky to start with because it got itself in that particular predicament. Cancels out I guess

karma requires balance - all your bad luck resulted in good luck for someone else.

If you want to feel good do something good for someone or something.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

That would have been such a shitty way to die, good thing you found it.

A hero to my kind is what you are op

Good on you, OP! When it's safe to do so, I always get turtles off roads. So many of them die that way :( their numbers are on the decline

You and that tortoise deserve all the updoots!

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Great story with some lovely photos! Well done OP, glad it all made you feel a bit better. +1

Awesome job @OP. Poor guy looks like he's been there a while. Glad you're happier now too. :o)

OP is obviously not a replicant.

The way the shell looks where it was stuck makes me think it was there for a long time.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I noticed that too! But how would it have survived for so long? Maybe its shell is just shaped that way..

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

AFAIK, reptiles can go for long periods without food or water. But true, it could just be the way it's meant to look.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Good guy OP is a good guy.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Hey, @OP we are turtle bros! http://imgur.com/rGpwu0m found this big bastard on my ride to class. He wouldn't let me take the leaches off.

Good save

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Any tortoise owners know the species of tortoise that OP saved from the hole?

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

He doesn't look very grateful considering you just saved him from a long, slow death.

10 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

No matter what happens to you, you make a difference in someone's life.

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Good on you man. What a cute tortoise

10 years ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 0

I love that you saving that little guy made your mood change. I always say it's the little things in life :)

10 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

10/10 you even protected other tortoises from same fate!

Plot Twist: Tortoise just wanted to end it all, spent last 8 months figuring out how to get on top of rock, was in hole just 4 minutes.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

In southern Maryland (west side/lower F), we used to have turtles on roads after every rain. We played the game "Turtle or Pinecone" daily.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Unless the tortoises are smaller, baby tortoises :(

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Or just made the hole smaller so that turtles that would have gone right thru now get stuck. :(

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Second that! I got a tortoise off a road last year.

10 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 1

Touched a tortoise on the tail end when it was walking on the road. Guess I spooked it, because it was in the grass faster than anything.

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Imgur is full of tortoise saviors!

One time on a road trip, there were turtles all over the road and every time I saw one, I'd pull over and make my sister get out and move it

Kindness through sibling delegation, clever and effective!

10 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

oh, you're a nice person. Don't stop that.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Wait, I don't get it... Do you know why the shell was slippery? If so, please share :)

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Gravity + Toilet needs = Poor Koopa Troopa.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Duh... Self inflicted Chinese Urine Torture... Poor guy!

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

There's a Japanese story about a guy who saves a turtle and he gets married to a princess and becomes immortal. Your luck may change! ;) 1/2

Mario?

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Mario kills turtles the fuck you talking about

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Urashimatarou. (^^;) Mario takes all sorts of things from Japanese mythology like the tanuki (tanooki suit) and shit. Interesting stuff!

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

In case anyone wants to see the story, Ive tried to retell it kind of shittily. There was an attempt. http://pastebin.com/9189jikN

10 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

Haha, I really enjoyed the shitty retelling! With some crappy ms paint to go with the story, this could easily be front page material!

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Wow, thank you! I'm surprised people have enjoyed it! Maybe I should think about doing some ms paint drawings...

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

He then fucks it up and ends up turning himself into an old man and dies alone but, still! You did a good thing, OP!

10 years ago | Likes 297 Dislikes 0

Yay!

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

So its ok as long as you don't fuck this one up OP

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Dies alone? I thought you said he became immortal.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

1 Sort of immortal. It was temporary. http://pastebin.com/9189jikN A tl;dr, Guy saves turtle. Goes to magical sea kingdom of eternal youth.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

4 he ignores the advice and opens to box. Turns into an old man. It was the only thing keeping "real world" time from catching up to him,

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

3 years have passed while he was in the kingdom though to him, it's been no more than 3 days. On land with no way to get back to the palace

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

2 Marries beautiful princess. Wants to go home. Princess lets him but gives him a box and warns him NOT TO OPEN IT. He discovers over 300

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

5 there's an Irish story with almost the same plot called Osin in the Land of Youth (Oisin i Tir na n-Og)

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I see. Somehow this explanation makes both more and less sense than the original comment, but thank you for explaining :)

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Haha, no problem, I tried! Had to hyper-over simplify to make the comment digestible without making it too much of an essay ;)

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Still a better love story than twilight

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Learn from his experience OP.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QNmJm73_fHM ... video of tortoise swimming

10 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 1

Thanks for this. I feel so much better.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Don't let this video mislead you to applying it to all tortoises. SOME tortoise species can swim, MOST tortoise species CANNOT SWIM.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

If you cant identify a tortoise or turtle species dont just throw it in the water, leave it near water and let it decide were to go.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Well would ya look at that .

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

That was a gopher tortoise the guy threw in the water. It likely drowned because they cant swim.
