DO YOU HAVE YOUR SHIT TOGETHER?

Maybe you do, maybe you don't. But I wrote some shit for you to read anyway.

STEP 1 - Self-fucking-realize

The first step is to get your brain to finally realize that you don't have your shit together. Your situation is not just a temporary blip. You want to have your shit together. The brain can trick you into thinking you do, and it peppers in excuses as to why at this very moment your X-variable is in disarray.

But that's not reality. The reality is if you had your shit together, you would notice that you've spent more time in disarray than being content with X-variable, and make it a priority to fix it.

Admitting this is all anyone needs to start getting their shit together. Self fucking realize.

Stop dicking around.

Nobody has enough time. And everybody bitches about it. Think back for the past week. How did you spend Monday morning, Monday evening, etc? What the fuck are you actually doing? What about the week before. Is there a negative pattern there? Stop that shit, or at least set a hard limit on yourself.

You feel guilty for a reason....

How many times have you felt ashamed/guilty about things this week? Like that laundry pile in the corner. Or embellishing in an email/message to your coworker/classmate/love interest to make you seem like you're more responsible/smarter/nicer. What was it? Fucking do whatever it was the right way now. Admit it to yourself that *this* is a pain point in your life. You don't have to admit your fuck up to anyone else. Just fucking fix it, and make a plan so you don't feel that guilty of the same thing again.

You're being stagnant. No seriously, you are.

How long has it been that you've been in this particular life stage, but waiting for the next. Job, Hobby, relationship, living situation. How long has it been? Think back. Think. I told you to fucking think. Stop reading and think. God damn.

Chances are it's longer than you realized. Do one thing to start yourself on a better track right fucking now. Or today at least.

Expectations vs reality

Is your discomfort in *X-variable* because you had expected *Y*, or a bigger *X* and didn't receive as such? Every single person on this planet feels disappointment over this.

You need to realize that you're only feeling bad because you tried to predict the future for yourself and didn't get it right. Bitch, you don't even own a crystal ball. Realize *that* is the source of your negative feelings; not being able to predict the future.

Laugh at yourself for your misguided self-pity for a moment and then self fucking realize.

Emotional attachment to material objects is dragging you down

I'm not talking about your grandfather's pocket watch, or your favorite sweater. The problem here is that you have a lot of stuff that you keep around just because of a sunk cost fallacy. It doesn't have to be stuff you spent a lot of money on.

What about those magazines/text books you piled up to use as reference, or your old report cards from 9th grade, or that certain comic book collection you haven't even looked at in two and a half years, and what about that half-finished project you started last year and haven't found *any* time to work on?

You don't fucking need it. More so, you don't need to guilt of keeping it around just because at one time you enjoyed it. You bought it, you've probably used/enjoyed it at least a couple times, but that doesn't mean you're obligated to keep it around for the rest of your life. Let it go. Recycle it, sell it on eBay, put it on the corner and post it as a free item on Craigslist. Hell, throw it out. Clear the space in your room/desk/house for something new in the future. You don't have to know what the new thing is yet, but you need to clear your mind of shit that you're keeping around *just because*. Get rid of it.

SHUT THE FRONT DOOR, THAT'S IT?

Seriously, this is some shit you need to ponder on for awhile. Fucking read it a second time if you have to. The point is to start getting your brain to realize this shit. Don't forget this shit.

This made me feel like I didn't have my shit together, but I'm doing quite well. Shame on this post!

Thank you for this, this actually got me to catch up on all of my work. Shit is getting back together.

I don't think this works for everyone.

January. AKA "Shame the Procrastinator" month.

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

(but really, good advice, I can dig it)

10 years ago | Likes 97 Dislikes 2

I just remembered there is a sale tomorrow in my supermarket

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I'll read this tomorrow.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Don't be stagnant... but don't change JUST for the sake of progress. If you're happy in your stagnant pond, fuck everyone else!

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

But that won't lead to you buying more/new products and maxing out your credit card. So clearly that's not what you're supposed to do.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's easy to read this stuff. Actually doing it is something else.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Just as easy as writing it. Most people could do that. We're all good at giving advice, but less good at following advice.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Very helpful that this is on the site on which I do most of my procrastinating - *meh, continue scrolling*

10 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Step 1: Stop reading articles on imgur.

"Why spend money on drugs when you're poor? Because i'm poor and everything sucks and I need the drugs to cope okay?!"

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

... are bad. Imgur is good

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

He may have opened the reply a bit too late... RIP @Codyroo500

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

At least imgur is more subtle when it's taking your life away lol

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Imgur can be kind of as bad as drugs, but at least it's cheap

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Dude I can't even be fucked reading this long ass post.

10 years ago | Likes 49 Dislikes 3

Thats deep man. But do it, feel good about small things bro

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Preach. "Feel guilt"? What's that?

You can't tell me what to do! http://imgur.com/xRYL8th

Propelling myself forward before properly dealing with traumatic situations was incredibly detrimental in my life. Felt similarly to (1/2)

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

(2/2) this post, that I was "wasting my life" & ought to shed the past & push forward. Took me 10 years to undo the damage. 10 years, wasted

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

What helped you?

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

These helped me more than the more traditional therapy I tried (for years) & the results seem more permanent. Might not work for all. (2/2)

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Two techniques: the Emotion Code (done with a practitioner and then some on my own) and Amy B. Scher's class on releasing old anger. (1/2)

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

1/2 Ah, something similar did the same for me (simplified thought field therapy)! Seems the body holds a lot of emotions. Will read up on

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

these two techniques though - thank you and bless you!

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I sort of like it but all the childish cursing brings it down alot.

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I was writing it in the r&m theme of tough love. Some of us have became immune to the common "inspirational quotes" posts and need a jolt.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

I've become immune to both at this point! If I gotta be honest.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Writing a post about getting my shit together on IMGUR... *slow clap*

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Stop dicking around is exactly what I should do. But am I going to get off imgur? Probably not

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Stop trying to make your post unique by adding "fuck" into every sentence. It's been done already.

10 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

Exactly.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Befora I read all that stuff: do I need money and/or a job to do that?

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Now add depression into the mix!

10 years ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 2

Seeing a professional and maybe finding a medication can do a lot to at least get on your feet

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

I've found getting angry works for smaller attacks, bigger ones eh all that worked was being active when they weren't around.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

BOOTSTRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAPS

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I get that. Depression makes this all harder, a lot harder, but that just makes each success more rewarding.1/2

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

As a successful person with bipolar 2, the above is absolute horseshit.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

And just because I'm successful and can function doesn't mean I find any value or worth to life despite being on drugs and endlessly looking

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

My 1st big problem was that I was sleeping through class, my one simple goal is that I'm forcing myself to wake up at the same time each day

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

any methods that have worked for you? i am really struggling with that.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

honestly, I visualize slapping myself across the face if I don't get up after the alarm goes off. Since every part of it is in your brain1/?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

from the chemicals to the emotions and thoughts I find it helpful to make the work that you put into helping yourself be at least 50% mental

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

so every time I do something good for myself I recognize it with a mental pat on the back, if I think about doing something wrong I

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm a procrastinator but I just spent all evening clearing junk and putting things in storage to puppy-proof the house. Victory is mine!

10 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

Then you're already a better person than me, congratulations

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I had a kid. Then suddenly I had motivation and a desire to provide a good life for my child. I am now a CEO of my dream company.

10 years ago | Likes 32 Dislikes 1

Post about it?

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Nah. I'm not a creative guy.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Says the person who is now a CEO of his dream company ;) Nah, it's okay if you don't want to.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Did you sell the kid to get the company started?

10 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 0

Can I borrow your kid?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Don't lie

10 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

http://grimmodds.com/ is what we are currently working on.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I'm not.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Buh....but my kid takes up most of my time when I'm not at work. And I love spending/wasting time with him...what now?

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Obviously you need to get rid of them cuz they're dragging you down.

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Lol. Nah. Can't get rid of that little dude. He's an awesome kid.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Generally, parents tend to have their shit together. If you're spending your time doing things for your kid, you're doing just fine.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

I love you. Thank you.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

If I had my shit together I wouldn't be on imgur.

10 years ago | Likes 862 Dislikes 1

Step 1: Get off imgur.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Haha so we all have this problem right? I have a job interview tomorrow and I cleaned my house and did my laundry, am I still stagnant, am i

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

"Don't have your shit together? Get your shit together!"- This Post. The truth? No one has their shit together. Accept it and live. Be happy

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

I'd say i have my shit together for the most part. There was a stretch of time recently that i didnt, it was miserable.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You should want to. Jus sauyn

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Really? What is "having your shit together"? Everyone's opinion is different and no ones is corrext.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Oh...

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Got my shit together. On Imgur.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

All i could think about the whole time i was reading this.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

true

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I have my shit together and im on imgur. Having shit together doesnt mean being productive every waking moment

10 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 2

Yeah you deserve a break and a promotion!

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Well... I do have my own business, so i just promoted myself from owner to executive owner.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

isnt that a demotion

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah, which means this post has its target audience right. Maybe now is the time to get our shit together.

10 years ago | Likes 114 Dislikes 3

Maybe we should all just trade shit and see how well we put each others shit together.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That sounds like effort...

10 years ago | Likes 37 Dislikes 2

Disgusting.

10 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

so.... get off imgur?

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Woah don't be hasty.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I'm pooping while reading. All my shit is in this porcelain bowl. It's all together, my shit.

10 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Take it to the shit store and sell it.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You can't stop from eating my own shit.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I have a court order that says you have to stop eating shit.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Not necessarily true - source: I have mine togsther, at least a little bit

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

The irony is strong

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

We have a winner!

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If OP had his shit together, HE wouldn't be on Imgur.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ppl still have the gall to be making assumptions in 2021? Thats just you making an excuse for urself bro.

5 years ago | Likes 0 Dislikes 0

Thats kinda what the post is about, buddy

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

I'm not your buddy, friend

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I'm not your friend, mate.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Hey. Shit together. The OP just talked about this

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'll be in the first stall on the right

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I studied psychology: self actualization is not the beginning of a self help process. It's somebody living up to to their fullest potential

10 years ago | Likes 84 Dislikes 2

I think he means self-awareness, but besides that blip this is seems like it could help as a starting point for some.

10 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

So OP should have said... overcoming denial?

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

OP said Self Realization not Actualization...

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It would be the last part of this process; you have self actualized when you HAVE all of your shit together, not when you start.

10 years ago | Likes 27 Dislikes 0

Thanks for pointing out the error. I just updated the text.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

YAY! I made a difference!

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

maybe OP should have called it 'self realization'?

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yep I agree...I should have said that instead.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Ahaha your username is wonderful! :D

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Why thank you.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

and constantly living up to that potential too. Some say it is a state you achieve, while others believe it is one you maintain. It is life.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

An understanding of one's self can help immensely. http://www.16personalities.com/free-personality-test. Know your flaws, find your strength

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Okay, what do I do with this information?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Take the test and read through the personality analysis. It points out strengths and shortcomings. Very in-depth and well written.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Do what you will with the information. Sometimes a little insight is all that is needed to make tomorrow a little better.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I've found simple things like making my bed everyday, keeping everything tidy, clean and organised helps a lot to kickstart things!

10 years ago | Likes 101 Dislikes 0

In the military when you have to lead a group of people, the first thing you enforce when morals is down is routine. Shave, clean up, etc.

10 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

It helps a lot more than what you think it would!

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I'm going to start quoting you, because people don't believe me when I say how important routine is!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It helped me to kickstart my drug habit!

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

That's amazing! Proud of you :)

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

For me its working as hard as i possibly can until the shit in my life is strait. Then i just let go clear my mind it starts off small.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

“I guarantee you that at some point, everything's going to go south on you…Now, you can either accept that, or you can get to work”.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

For me, the key was wearing pants. Yep, wearing pants ...

10 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

Burn the heretic!

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Instead of new years resolutions I'm focusing on a word I want to embody and a person I want to improve my relationship with.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

That sounds great!

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah, my word is Beast this year. Or leia me focused on staying fit and not taking the easy way out on responsibilities.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That was supposed to be "it helps"

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That seems like it would really help! I might have to come up with something like that :)

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I don't know about later, what about tomorrow?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Favoriting for later.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

the key is not getting motivation, but just doing what needs to be done, things that start off small have a way of snowballing good or bad

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Motivation is a fickle bitch, self-discipline has the potential to get you to your goal.
