It's frustrating that the only people who haven't embraced metric, also insist on misspelling metre, kilometre, tonne - and instead re-use words that have adjacent meanings (meter, ton) so now they need to *clarify* those words with uncomfortable phrasing like 'metric ton', which just frustrates everyone who actually uses metric. If North Americans just adopted the nomenclature the rest of the metric world uses, it'd be a lot easier for everyone.
My comment was meant to sound high and mighty - so, task ticked! - but was also a tacit nod to the fact that 100mph is much slower than the actual speed the shinkansen reaches.
The train is actually going to go about 300km/hr, because it's in that 95% of the world that quite sensibly uses metric.

You kind of come back to the original joke here - that Argentinian-shirt-wearers who look a bit Germanic. Well done.
