Not to say there was no shame in belonging to the Nazi Party, or that many members weren't truly evil. It's all about historical perspective
Many were just happy to afford food and welcomed a once-proud Germany not being humiliated by WWI's victors. Not all expressly hated Jews.
Many Germans were forced into the Nazi Party out of fear for what would happen to them at the hands of the Nazis if they didn't join.
