It's the UK, being armed for home defense isn't a thing. But you're completely correct, you want to keep these things secure and discreet.
I gave up my shotguns when I moved from the country. Wouldn't want my neighbours around here knowing I had guns in the house.
in the UK rifles require a more stringent license than shotguns. You can get them but it's more difficult.

It's been a run of mild winters lately. There's usually a handful of heavy snow days throughout the winter but it's still mostly rain

Yes please. You probably go to more farms than even the farmers! And I'd be interested to see how the US compares.
Or find a local farmer and go see it with your own eyes, everything online is cherrypicked and biased one way or the other.
Animals don't use soap and have to shit somewhere, it's going to smell. Chicken shit always has high ammonia levels so smells strong.
A counterpoint being that people with comfortable lives in peaceful countries are maybe less likely to need or seek support from religion?
