I think this might be a case of statistical self-selection bias: Most players don't shoot from the 3 very often. Only the best ones do.

This is a Newton Hammer Drill, it's from the 1860s and was used to drill holes into rock to dynamite for railway tracks in rough terrain.

Societal attitudes in general have changed a lot since 2008. Remember that Prop 8 was in 2008, too. Society moves on, politicians can too.
