I mean, to be fair, there's room on that carbon-fiber submarine for at least Gaetz, Cruz, and three others... Maybe MTG, Boebert, and Tuberville?

Dude, I did not anticipate learning about botany this morning. I love this place. And thank you, for helping educate!

Gonna go run off and read more about dandelions. I loved those things when I was a kid and it's always fun taking a trip down memory lane and using it to spark new curiosity.

This is interesting! I went to wiki to learn more and found "In members of the Asteraceae the fruit is achene-like, and is called a cypsela (plural cypselae)."

If I'm understanding it correctly:
Strawberry seeds aren't just seeds, they're achenes (which are a type of "dry fruit" that can also function as a seed).
Sunflower seeds aren't seeds, they're cypselae, which are "achene-like", but *not* actually achenes.
Samaras (which I always thought were generally"tree seeds") are winged achenes.

I'm so sorry for your loss.

My wife and I were there two years ago, just before Christmas, with our girl. I promise that the pain will get better. Tell stories about her with those you care about. Give weight to her memory, and hue to her character.

"When you are sorrowful look again in your heart, and you shall see that in truth you are weeping for that which has been your delight." — Kahlil Gibran

(And I mean that in the encouraging way, not the "Just do it, it's not that hard" way. Be bold, be mighty. You can absolutely do this!)

You *will* get your life together. For you, as well as your unborn son.

When you look for recipes you come across weird shit where sites go to great lengths to *avoid* the recipe, until they've regaled you with non sequiturs and oddly timed memoirs. All about shit that has nothing to do with the recipe... You know, the whole reason you're there.

If this were an example I'd write six paragraphs about all the dicks my grandma gobbled during the Roaring 20s, but -- tantric-style -- I'd wait till the last possible moment to tell you anything about the recipe.

Thank you! Fellow with OCD here and...this was well-timed. Sometimes we need a reminder that we're not alone, and that even people who are "succeeding" are mired in the same bullshit.

Depressed for 26 years with suicidal ideation. Some cutting, a lot of self medicating, but no attempts. The two things that prevent me from attempting are "small things" and "ripple effect". Small things buoy me up for a bit, buy me some time to shake off more temporary moods. Ripple effect is the realization that if I were to even *attempt* suicide, I'd increase the chances of my loved ones (also suffering from depression) attempting. Most days I'm just... Holding fast, and holding on.

My whole life I thought I had "lots of cowlicks" but mostly straight/wavy hair. During the pandemic my hair was getting longer and driving me crazy. In an attempt to slick it back I got it wetter and kept messing with it. After a bit this spiral plopped down in front of my eyes and it was like a lightbulb turned on. "OMFG I have curly hair?!" Been a journey of learning how to deal with it (and struggle not to cut it off, some days) ever since. Grats and have fun with your discoveries!

Anything recent or credible? That's from 2010. From a site that looks slightly sus. I'm not for or against the spikes, but I can't find anything to back up that they tend to cause injury. There are a lot of photos of birds nesting or perching among them, however, looking unfazed.

Hearing what happened to them is horrible and disheartening. I have to remind myself to take a page out of the book of Mr. Rogers and "look for the helpers", and often... Thank you for *being* a helper.

Bird (or anti-bird) spikes aren't sharp and don't prick or impale birds that encounter them. It's meant to be a deterrent. Similar to throwing spikes on surfaces to prevent people from sitting or sleeping there, the spikes aren't meant to wound, just make people less likely to engage in the undesired behavior.

It's always some fuckwit that never served telling others how the military needs to be. The US military is already diverse AF and it's one of its greatest strengths. Tommy Tuberville peaked as a fucking *football coach*, so maybe if he had some searing insight on Gatorade showers, or the velocity of pigskin, I'd be more enamored with the dogshit falling out of his mouth.

Crows in our area dig (from most preferred to least) cashews, walnuts, almonds, and peanuts. They also lose their minds for hardboiled eggs.
