The kitten I rescued from the storm drain next to my house still asks me for uppies. The cats have to eat on an elevated surface because of my dogs. At first she couldn't get up there by herself, but now she is perfectly capable. Still though, she wants uppies when it's meal time, and I give in because nothing is cuter than a kitten.

When my daughter was about 10, she trained one of our small (15-20 lbs) dogs to pull her around the block on her razor scooter. It was the cutest thing ever. I made her wear a helmet, but I am positive that if it took place today I would be excoriated by Social Media Moms and perhaps even face charges. Somehow, she never got hurt doing that, though she suffered her share of other typical childhood wipeouts.

#30 my activation phrase is, "get your head in the fucking game, Snuggles!" I think it was in a Puppy Bowl meme several years ago.

#4 I feel guilty laughing at this.

#9 When I was a kid, I saw the one in the Smithsonian in Washington D.C., and a grown-ass man turned to his wife and asked what time they turned it on every morning. Even as an average American 8-year-old, I knew that man was dumber than a bag of hammers.

I hate ads as much as anybody, and yes, I pay a premium on my streaming services to avoid them. That said, growing up in the 1970s without cable TV conditioned me to think of TV commercials as "Time to get a Coke from the fridge," or "Time to go to the bathroom," or "Time to do something to annoy my big brother." In other words, we developed ad blindness back then too, but in a different form. It comes in handy when watching Tubi, Pluto, etc.

Everyone knows that history repeats itself. The problem is, we think we're somehow different, somehow better than past generations. Maybe we think that our amazing advancements in technology will prevent us from repeating history. But we're wrong. We're humans, and we're stupid enough to allow ourselves to be ruled by oligarchs and fascists, time and time again.

It's awful. I've been voting against Republicans since I was first eligible to vote (against Reagan in 1984). Things were already sliding downhill, but the downhill slide became steeper in 1994 (Clinton's first term mid-terms). And though the Obama presidency was somewhat of a reprieve, it's continued ever since. I'm 60 now, and my honest to God goal in life is to die relatively early and leave my adult kids enough money that they can GTFO this country with their families.

1. Politicians are like, "Well, we say we're gonna do stuff all the time and then don't do it. Trump will be the same." BZZT! Wrong. 2. Freedom is not a universal value. It is a value that makes sense for people of good character, but it is not universal. Know what IS a universal value? The desire for power. We fucked up bad in 2016, and we fucked up even worse in 2024 (assuming the 2024 presidential election wasn't blatantly stolen, which it may well have been).

Now there's a movie that ... that I'm sort of having a difficult time envisioning.

Match Game came on at 3:30, so I got home from school in time to watch it. My theory of Why The 70s Were That Way, from growing up in the 70s, is that 1) the variety of fun drugs was bigger 2) they were way easier to get from doctors and 3) every adult in every home in every city and state was on them.

If I could only have two albums, this would be one of them. The other would be "Village Green Preservation Society" by The Kinks. There's been plenty of outstanding music since that era, but those two are simply extraordinary and transcend time.

#24 I have a greyhound. Do you have ANY idea what it's like trying to get him back to normal when he has the zoomies??? I'm thinking of learning how to throw a lasso.

#3 My latest kitten (courtesy of the Cat Distribution System and the storm drain next to my house) has taken to jumping on my shoulder and riding around, like a parrot on a pirate's shoulder. Despite the razor blade claws, it's totally adorable. Yet I'm afraid of allowing her to continue. I've raised some very large cats over the years and I don't want to end up with a musculo-skeletal disorder that I'd have to explain to a doctor.

#13 I mentally named the lil pig "Gimli." He's just frolicking, side-by-side with his elf-goat friends.

This happened to me when I upgraded from a double to a California King bed. Tons of room. Still wake up with at least a couple of dog and cats glued to me.

Back when my 11-year-old pit-lab mix was about a year old, the Baptist church down the street would still do a "live nativity scene" in December, so for a few days before there would be all manner of beasts in pens in their fountain park. So yeah, one December day I'm walking her and we get close to the Baptist church and suddenly: CAMEL. The look on that dog's face was one for the ages, OMG. She wasn't scared, just seriously confused.

Can you imagine being THAT American who accidentally removes a few fingers on July 4, but in some totally non-fireworks-related manner? Say, a drunken vegetable-slicing accident, or mower maintenance gone awry. Who's going to believe you?

That's good to know. My biggest two or three trees are ash trees and the shade they provide is indispensable in our brutal Tennessee summers. The arborist with the utility company told me that the reason there are so many ash trees on my street is that since it runs parallel to the railroad, they just took the saplings right off the train cars and planted them when the built the houses in the 1930s.

If a tree is A) taller than I am (5'2") and B) big enough diameter I can't circle my fingers around it, I'm calling a professional. I would much rather pay a professional and have any repercussions of idiocy be on them and their insurance.

One of my ash trees has signs of Emerald Ash Borer (I think I spelled that right). I found out when I went outside to see why a man was staring at my trees. He was with the utility company and explained. He said it didn't look dire yet, but he was going to make a note to keep an eye on it. I hope I don't lose it. I love my giant-ass trees.

Wasn't he the first non-Beatle to be on a Beatles' hit single? I believe he played keyboards on "Jojo."

This is her, BTW. That's my lil Chihuahua dude in the background. Here, she's on a giant beanbag chair that can be squashed low on one end so she can just walk up it.

It's weird because her non-jumping mobility is just fine. She'll even jog part of the way on walks, and loooooooooves to roll on her back in the fancy grass at the dental office down the street. I guess I just gotta make sure she has plenty of comfortable lie-down places that are close to the ground.
