Please be careful blaming the schools for this! They're operating under an administration that's openly hostile to education, and particularly higher ed. Obviously state schools in red states like Alabama are dependent on funds from the state legislature. But even major private schools like Duke and Cornell have had federal research funding stripped because of their DEI policies. They don't want to scale back their DEI policies, but the people who control the money have them by the balls.
