Yeah just scrubbing, no intentional layer removal - though it'll probably still scrape the surface away a tiny tiny bit. Put the same panel through again and again job after job and it'll be noticeably thinner than it was when new.

Passes it through two big wire brush rollers. Concrete doesn't really stick well to oiled or coated panels. Can remove it by hand easily enough it just takes a lot longer.

You and the other dude bickering made me go hunting for where it is. It's Aix-en-Provence in southern France (original uploader is Italian it seems). Googlemaps shots of the area are mostly old but here's the most recent view I can find there that shows it. Vegetal and Coiffeur stores in the background, Le Saint Jean restaurant isn't even there yet on street view. Can see the place has changed a lot just in the last decade with the previous dates

Last I checked citizens arrest was still a thing in the UK - just to make it lawful the person had to commit an indictable offence (such as theft) so you'd better be 100% sure they did it or you're unlawfully detaining someone. Far as I can tell from a quick google that's still the case.

When you're on the bike don't carry stuff on your back that's harder than your spine. It's one of the rules.

well yeah I will 100% give em that, touchscreens can be very meh and the physical ui of the ipods was pretty well done

Well yeah, that's why I added the reply about addiction. OPs post (and my initial comment) is about dodging the shittiness of online services nowadays, not necessarily addiction. Addiction is another animal altogether and I've found that people generally, and understandably, dont like their addiction being highlighted so I didn't add it originally.

oh hey, fellow old fart in IT here. 99% of my stuff doesnt auto update. I will never have a smart fridge in my house. The tv doesnt get to use the internet. I've been tired of enshitification for basically 30 years now. You want a dedicated device you go for it, just saying you can avoid the enshitification of online services without needing a separate device

Ok - I didn't want to add this as it'll probably upset some people but since so many think that, roughly, 'its about being offline', I'll just add it here:

You can disable notifications you don't want, not look at those feeds, & dnd with 1 button. You can make your phone be 100% disconnected easily.

If you are deliberately not having your phone to 'be offline' you are not 'escaping the annoyance of ads/algorithms', as in OPs image, or just 'being offline'. You are avoiding your addiction.
