Character is Bondrewd from Made in Abyss. Great anime, but it goes hard in unexpected, terrifying ways. He does some really "questionable and morally objectionable" stuff in pursuit of his goals. Like, "in violation of the Geneva Convention" questionable.
Quite a few of these get used by arborists too, especially bowline and the sheet bend (a variation of it tied as a slipknot)
