When I was a child we had a huge garden. I would take a salt shaker out with me and just eat raw tomatoes until I was full.

I know this isn't a 10 minute job, but jfc the only reason I can do this in 10 minutes is because I've spent 20 years mastering my trade. You're paying for my experience, not the time spent. Actually had a customer claim "but this is a 10 minute job" recently, and I fully offered them to come into the shop and try the repair themselves.

I totally understand the need for quick meals, but making a rue takes about 5 minutes. Add liquid of choice, then cheese, then noodles that have been boiling during this process. It really only takes a few extra minutes to do that, rather than relying on citrate to get the equivalent emulsification. Even without citrate it still only takes 3-5 min longer to make from scratch vs box.

I would love it! A few thanksgivings ago I fed 32 family members, and resisted any and all offers of help. The next day I had to work, and those jerks (an endearing term) decided to get Thanksgiving v2 all cooked and ready to go by the time I got home. I was both appalled and teary eyed. I was never a line cook (though both my wife and I did tours of restaurant serving), but I genuinely believe that they are a cohort of over-stressed, coked-out heroes, and I salute them.

So, I'd like to think I've been pretty up-to-date on memes and their origins (hell I was making memes back in '94), but for the life of me I don't know who this guy is. Of course I've seen memes of him in weird locations/situations, but never dug into his hold on the zeitgeist. Could someone please ELI5 to me who he is?

I absolutely adore cooking for people. I missed the entire first half of the last Superbowl because I was in my happy place, cooking 22lbs of wings (and a ton of homemade sides), as well as keeping beverages flowing. I had the kitchen spotless (well, my wife would maybe disagree with that lol) before I even came to hang out. I believe that some of us just have it in us to host like our lives depend on it, and it brings us untold joy to see others enjoying themselves.

I think the naming is where the miscommunication lies tbh. Adding a fat right before cooking is for seasoning the food, it's not the same thing as seasoning a pan (Although some of those fat particles will inevitably carbonize into the cooking surface, thereby 'seasoning' it). Carbonized fats are absolutely awful tasting (cook some bacon until it's completely blackened if you want a taste), so if they make their way into the food, you're gonna have a bad experience.

Eh, it started as just a reply to the "oh no, the flavor" comment, but there were a couple after that that brought up so many memories of people who have no clue how cast iron seasoning works. Basically just trying to get the most eyes on correct information.

Jfc for the ten-millionth time; if your cast iron is imparting flavor, then, to quote Uncle Roger "You fucked up". "Seasoning" just means that all the pores are filled with carbonization (making it non-stick). Absolutely NO flavor should be imparted by the pan, ever (ok unless you're cooking on a salt block, or cooking fish on a wood slab on the bbq). If your cast iron is imparting flavor, then you need to take a steel brush and bring it back to its base, then reseason it properly.

Nope. The Internet was becoming widespread right as millennials were reaching middle-school and teenage years. It's a very formative memory of hearing the computer scream at you when you connected.

Pretty recently discovered that the ol' College Humor of yore turned into Dropout TV, and it's basically all my wife and I have watched the last couple months. Brennan is chaos incarnate. We're trying to decide which D20 arc to start with once we finish Game Changers and Make Some Noise.

Using a kiddy pool is brilliant! Did you drill holes for drainage, or do you just water them carefully?

First movie I ever saw in a theater (I was 8), and it became my favorite movie of all time. I've watched it well over 3000 times (absolutely no exaggeration). IMO it's very underrated compared to Mel's other films (all of which I've also seen 100s of times).

I know imgur is rather historically anti-self advertisement, but I'm glad to give you an upvote! Y'all have one hell of a task ahead of you, but I really appreciate the direction you're going with this. There is a single gaming podcast I listen to (CORE), simply because when they all play the same games, they're very open about their different experiences; and once you know who each reviewer is, you can trust their opinions to match what you like. I wish you all the best of luck!
