Yep, this. Altruism is antithetical to greed. Helping people doesn't make wealthy people wealthier, or powerful people more powerful, therefore those with the greatest ability to effect positive social change are the least motivated to do so.
Wasn't it Texas that recently flushed something like two million voters off their rolls without warning any of them? They're going to try to steal a victory, folks, and they aren't wasting effort any more on trying to hide it.
One thing the talking heads will never say out loud is this: it is mathematically impossible to budget your way out of poverty. There's a concerted effort to not mention this because if the poor collectively realized that there's no real chance any more to dig out of the hole without digging it deeper, they would have actual reason to rebel.
I have a friend that does likewise. He has something like 250TB worth of storage and automated download scripts and scrapers running. He has pretty much anything recent we might want to watch.
They are, they're just not loud enough to drown out the noise.

The Bible also warns frequently about the pursuit of wealth (and greed more broadly) being a gross sin and that being wantonly environmentally destructive was worthy of condemnation. It completely destroyed the bottom-most sector of the used vehicle market, wrecked the used parts market so badly it still hasn't recovered, and drove used vehicle prices up well above inflationary pressure. It has become a textbook example of the Law of Unintended Consequences affecting the ultimate outcome of badly planned legislation.
Money has velocity - it moves around. Money in the hands of the wealthy in the form of valuation has no velocity - it's stationary.
Seems like that would clash real bad flavor-wise.
