It does not maintain it; it enhances it. We use it to go from vacuum in the range of 10E-3 mbar without them to 10E-9 mbar
They are shaped so they rather deflect stray gas molekules that hit the rotor out of the to-pumped-volume.
Sadly they do not work that. The can only operate in already established vacuum. They also dont really create a gas current.
I do work with Turbomolecular pumps in a 8kHz range, but oh well I guess thats still the same magnitude.
Just that these rotorblades rotate with frequencies up to 8000 Hz.
