We aren't able to self-manage it with hopes and dreams when a chunk of the country wanted it and a majority of voters couldn't be arsed with voting when given the option "Definitely Fascist" vs "Not Fascist but Maybe Status Quo".

There's a reason many many many posts were made reminding married American women their votes are anonymous, because many of them in red states will be grilled about who they voted for by their husbands.
