The legs were on the sides, this is on a glass slide. The plastic slide thing on top was pushing on it.

My guess is they assembled the door deadbolt half separately, and when they measured the stationary half they measured from the wrong end.
There is a gap of about 1/8 of an inch but the latch only has about 1/8 of an inch of contact rather than the inch or more it could have
There is almost no connection between the latch and the bolt. I'd guesstimate around one eighth of an inch or less
