Right now, US "democracy" is just a label on the money making scheme for the very rich. If you aren't very rich (if you need to actually work to get by), you are merely their cattle of consumerism and you are living in an end-stage-capitalism oligarchy.

Since the economy is quite a bit different now, in order to successfully strike, people would need to boycott consumerism on pretty much all levels, boycott the entire digital media sphere, actually... and I don't see enough people willingly stripe themselves of their precious distractions.
