Completely ignored the stair step patterns in the floor, amateur installation.

Drill a hole for the screw in the metal as close to the edge of the metal as possible. If the screw is on a slight angle...no big deal.
Since no one has travelled outside of that circle how do you know it's been confined to just that circle?
