And everyone keeps forgetting how fucking expensive appliances used to be. People say they don't like how everything is made in china or india nowadays but they sure love not paying two months wages for a fridge. Just look up any appliance prices in the 60s or 70s and throw that number in an inflation calculator.
Appliances were magnitutes more expensive back then. Simple washing machines in the US in the 60 started at an inflation adjusted $2000. The one in the post was probably closer to $8000. Of course people used to pay $250 to fix their $2000 machine. Now you can get a whole new one for $250.

People tend to forget the main reason why people used to fix their appliances instead of replacing them is because they used to be VERY expensive. And the one in the image was on the high end.
