It's big enough that in some areas, if you fell, it would take you a good hour or so until you hit the planet surface. So I'd say it counts.
A quick brief: alpha radiation is radiation that is incapable of breaching most objects that also happens to be the most deadly form of it.
I know that the player ship is coded to only be hittable at the very center, but god damn does that look ridiculously precise.
