I know, that’s why I didn’t put it in quotes. But it is a compound phrase with a singular adjective modifying two nouns. the phrase “high crimes and misdemeanors” literally means ‘high crimes and high misdemeanors.’ We just rarely duplicate adjectives in English. Now, you can say some of those things fall under the umbrella of “high Crimes and Misdemeanors,” and I’m sure they do, but it is still intellectually disingenuous and misleading to say ‘here’s a list of specific things the Constitution says’ when the reality is close to ‘the Constitution only gives a general category, but here are some things that might classify and qualify for inclusion under that category.’

The only thing it says about presidential impeachment is that they can be removed from office if tried AND convicted of “Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors” (the latter being crimes against the State, specifically).
It’s been time to purge for 30 years and yet the incumbency re-election rate in Congress is something like 96% because in voters’ minds it is never “their guy” that is the problem; it is everyone ELSE who needs to elect someone new. So, unless you have a way to convince 120,000,000 voters across all political stripes to all agree on purging everyone, including “their guy,” then saying “time to purge” is useless.
High misdemeanors. Which at the time meant something akin to breach of duty, misuse of office, official misconduct, etc. against the State (the “High” part). So not the modern meaning of petty crimes (like littering or jaywalking), and not “High” as in big or great, but as in “specifically against the State,” not just in one’s personal life. Still a wide net, but not as wide as most people think if they are relying on modern colloquial understandings of those words.

Speaking of landlocked, trivia for you…most landlocked countries are bordered by multiple neighbors, but there are only 3 sovereign nations that are enclaves—completely surrounded by only one other state/country/political entity/etc. (so, a country that exists entirely inside the borders of another, single, larger country). What are they, and what country surrounds each?
