I've got a Talarico sign in my front yard, and at this point in his campaign I'd also like to see more concrete plans from him than general platitudes, but he's made some excellent progress in the Texas House in his own right, so I don't think he's completely full of hot air. I don't pretend that progessives would win everywhere; I live in Texas, so I'm no stranger to deep-red districts. The issue is that when Democrats move to the right they inspire nobody, dissuade voters from their own base, and earn precisely zero Republican votes in the process, yet somehow (entrenched leadership and a complicit media) it has become widely accepted that that's the way to win, with no regard to "what next?" if they do happen to win, to boot.
I'm not so convinced of that; the median American voter is a *special* kind of dumb, and still highly manipulable when not-so-dumb. Even when it's not as bad as the conservative NY couple who voted for Mamdani because they thought he was an Italian republican, we're in a trans panic because the media stoked fires that were all but smoldering ashes ten years ago. Voters eat shit up, even if it's contrary to what they would believe or support in an absolute information vacuum.

While I don't disagreee with the underlying premise, how is that crime rate measured? If it has anything to do with arrests/charges/prosecutions/convictions, I can certainly see how fewer police making fewer arrests (and, thus, less of most everything downstream) would lend itself to lower rates regardless of how many crimes were committed.Not doubting, just asking for clarification.
