That's not the lesson here. There are tens of millions who don't vote every cycle. We "have trump" because the GOP has been better at energizing their voters by playing on fear and xenophobia. While at the same time, their opposition has run on maintaining the status quo. There is no world where if the DNC pushes another feckless Democrat changes that dynamic.

Sure, but let's not annoint him as the Democratic candidate just yet. Who even knows who the GOP candidate will be? Trump could try to illegally run, he might even be dead at that point. Maybe the left needs a candidate who is not part of the democratic establishment with major baggage to go against the right. Who knows? Criticism of politicians is as American as apple pie
