My husband and I bought our first home in 1994 for $124K with a combined income of $63K. We were 25 and 27 years old. Interest rate was 8.5%.

At my son"s college campus coffee shop I overpaid my order so my change would be an even dollar instead of an annoying 80 cents and it was SO CONFUSING to a high school graduate. Nobody uses cash.
Some people's algorithms have put them into a separate reality from you. Especially if they only watch Fox News or they don't engage with legacy media at all.

Our local homeschooling community has families that resisted "labeling" their neuro divergent kids. The kids thankfully weren't bullied but now they are young adults who are not employed or even driving. They should have had therapy.
My parents were divorced, too, and I was shocked that they lived in such a beautiful house.
I hitchhiked with my mom in the 70's. I hated it.
In-person Tupperware parties, home visits from The Avon Lady, no leaf blowers, The Wizard of Oz on TV once a year, Big Wheels, adult men openly dating young teenage girls.

Reading a book rather than watching TikTok is not the same thing at ALL. I was a bookworm in the 1980's and in retrospect I realize that a love for reading helped me navigate life in so many ways. I wasn't "popular" in high school but I had a few good friends and was quite happy hanging out with them.
I was in Europe when that song was popular and at the time I felt it was the worst song ever performed. Conk frequently points to it as the highlight of civilization. Hilarious.

Wife of a Filipino here. We often leave the rice cooker plugged in on "keep warm" for a couple of days so there is always warm rice ready to eat.

I can't help sticking my tongue out a little when I am concentrating. I volunteer in my community but only in five year stretches before I burn out. In my 20's I thought I would enjoy collecting china in my 50's and I was right. I'm an introvert but I love to throw parties. When I give away outgrown children's books I promise the special ones that I will buy them again for my grandchildren.
So many people that I thought had it all together were actually hot messes when I got to know them better and I love them for that.
I gotta say that a college party did a pretty good job at pre-screening my husband for me. I was a blue-collar kid on scholarship and I found another low-income guy on scholarship with "good prospects" and 30 years later we're happily married. Love my sexy nerd with a good sense of humor!
